Free-hand sections of Echinodorus sp. "Rataj"

Young leaf (over 1 week)

Old  leaf (over 1 year)

From young leaves to old leaves, the distribution of chloroplasts changed in order to develop more specified tissue organisation.  The darker appearance of old leaves may imply the decrease in the ratio of chloroplast a to chloroplast b.The cells are conjugated tightly leaving no intercellular space. Crystals can be found both in the young leaf and the old leaf.
